The success of our comedy evening at Cafe Roux
The success of our comedy evening at Cafe Roux!
Thanks to all who came and joined us at Cafe Roux last night at our very first comedy evening fundraiser!
Opening the evening was the familiar sound of South Peninsula local and The Voice finalist Jeremy Olivier, who shared his own personal story explaining the influence behind his music and how Masicorp lies close to his heart. To close his set, Jeremy performed a song he had done with South Africa’s most celebrated male singing group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Next on the stage was our alumni graduate Olwethu Mlaza who spoke about his years attending school in Masiphumelele and the challenges he faced growing up. He tied his story into how our organization helped make a difference in his life. Olwethu’s success served as an example of the importance of continuing the work we do and why we need support in order to sustain our organization.
The much-anticipated comedy performances started with our opening act, Phila Mnyanda who had the audience in stitches as he shared his life experience about growing up in Soweto, getting robbed in the streets of Johannesburg and how he eventually joined the Navy. The most relatable part in his set was his move to Cape Town and his first experiences in this city.
We were also excited to have with us our headlining act Kagiso ‘’KG” Mokgadi, who hilariously brought down the house with humor ranging from marriage and relationships, to his ambitious dreams of one day owning a litchi farm!
In between acts, the wonderfully funny MC Nik Rabinowitz kept our audience entertained. His quick-witted humor is an unforgettable and unique experience and kept the audience laughing all night!
To all our guests and our audience members – thank you! We were so overwhelmed and grateful for everybody that turned out to support us so generously. We would especially like to thank all our performers who made the evening special for our guests. Thanks must also go to our wonderful friends at Cafe Roux for hosting this event. Every cent made on the night will go towards supporting education in the community of Masiphumelele – helping to uplift and provide opportunities to those that need it most.
We are always eager to welcome visitors to our programmes who are interested in our work, so if you are keen to get involved, or see our programmes in action, please do get in touch.
