Ukhanyo Primary continues to shine as systemic results are released
The Learning Labs were originally established at Ukhanyo Primary in an effort to raise the standard of Maths, Science and English teaching and learning in these subjects. Pass rates were low and teachers and learners were struggling with issues such as language barriers, lack of teaching equipment and supplies, as well as overcrowded classrooms. The vision for these labs was a long term and sustainable skills transference to the teachers using a method of teaching that encouraged learner participation.
The systemic results for 2018 have just been released and we are thrilled to note that Ukhanyo learners have maintained their excellent results.
In 2018 81,7% of Grade 3 learners passed the systemic Maths test. This was up 0.4% from 2017. This is 25% above the provincial average and 26,5% above the pass rate of schools in similar socio-economic areas (Quintile 2 schools).
In 2018 74,4% of Grade 6 learners passed the systemic Maths test. This was down 4,5% from 2017, but still 32% above the provincial average and 34,3% above the pass rate of schools in similar socio-economic areas (Quintile 2 schools). This is the second cohort of learners who were part of Maths Lab in Grade 4.
In 2018 71,2% of Grade 6 learners passed the systemic English Language test. This was up 1% from 2017. It is 32,5% above the provincial average and 45,6% above the pass rate of schools in similar socio-economic areas (Quintile 2 schools).
Well done to the learners teachers and leaders at Ukhanyo Primary as well as our Learning Labs coordinators for such encouraging results, we cannot be more proud!
