The annual Student Braai was held on the 25th of August at Fisherman’s Restaurant in Kommetjie.
Surely being the end of August we would be able to sit and braai outside? Well, no the wet cold and windy weather forced the entire party indoors. Thank goodness the dining area was warm and cosy and there was a table long enough to accommodate all 20 of us, this must be the longest table in the peninsula.
We had a good turnout and it was wonderful to watch the students socialize and get to know each other again. Our new intake happily mingled and the banter was soon flying around.
Tom Burton visiting from Durham University compared notes and swapped stories from across the globe.
Seni announced that he had got married which caused much cheering and cries from the girls ” Oh no Seni what about me?”.
Ziyanda was congratulated on graduating with a BSc in Biotechnology, well done Ziyanda and good luck for the future. The students got up one by one and told everyone what and where they were studying.
Joseph, the braaimaster, had suggested the day before that we should have roast vegetables rather than salad because of the cold weather and anyway who’s ever heard of students eating salad? So roast potatoes and vegetables it was and of course meat, lots of it.
When the sun came out we all went outside and there was much hilarity and cameras snapping when the Kommetjie baboons came to visit.
Present at the braai were: Jill Stirrup, Elize Taylor, Marjan Ritchie, Tom Burton and then of course the students : Seni, Ziyanda, Athi, Thulisa ,Khaya, Mihlali, Yandiswa, Simphiwe, Sibulele, Khusta, Nomaphelo, Zizipho, Nosipiwo, Ntombizanele. Lungelwa is doing an internship in the Eastern Cape, Babalwa had a test on that Saturday morning and Loyiso is working at a Travel Agency in Cape Town.
