The Power of Education

We at Masicorp believe that the surest route out of poverty is through education. When someone is enlightened, they are empowered, and gain the power to conquer a multiplicity of obstacles. Obstacles which may be holding them back and defining their everyday lives and living circumstances.

For 21 years, we have strived to bring about a chain reaction of education and empowerment in Masiphumelele – to bring hope to people which have been held back for too long and giving them the opportunity to thrive. By focusing on quality education and skills development in this struggling community – future doors are opened to employment opportunities and a stable income – giving people a way to support themselves and their families.

According to Living Hope “approximately 23-28% of the population is HIV positive, and many residents are affected by TB as well. As a result, there are many orphaned children, and many must support families on their own as single parents. The unemployment rate is estimated at 70-80%, and crime rates are extremely high”, making it extremely challenging for people from this community to break the cycle of poverty.

Masicorp understand the effect of education on employment, therefore, we employ people from the community, and uplift our staff with educational support that allows people to learn new skills and reach for their dreams. A wonderful example of our efforts to upskill our staff and have them reach their full potential is the story of Zoleka. She was a domestic worker with a dream to become a teacher. Masicorp supported her and helped her by enrolling her into courses that have helped her become a qualified ECD teacher at Chasmay educare.
