Supporting the organisations at Chasmay Campus through COVID-19

When we officially took on the task of managing Chasmay Road campus in 2018, we also took on the responsibility to make the campus a safe, secure and supportive environment for the many incredible organizations that operate in this space. These organisations are all geared towards serving the community of Masiphumelele in different ways that help this community thrive. The pandemic has affected all programmes on campus and we have all had to adjust to a new way of living and working.

As part of our efforts to ensure a safe environment for all, last week we handed out hygiene packs for each organization that operates at Chasmay Road Campus. These packs included bleach, hand sanitizer, cloths and a bowl. Regular cleaning and sanitising of our working spaces is crucial for us to make sure that each organisation on campus adheres to COVID-19 protocols so everyone can be protected.

To make sure that every tenant understands how to protect themselves and people in their organization, Masicorp was recently joined by Chantal Benade as our COVID-19 compliance officer. She has helped navigate the re-opening of the campus and the various projects. Chantal has been exceptional in making sure that everyone understands what it means to live with the reality of a pandemic like COVID-19 and how we can ALL play a role in staying safe during this time.

Over the past few months, all of our Masicorp staff were initially orientated and we undertook risk assessments to determine who should work on site and who could work remotely. The campus tenants were then orientated with basic COVID-19 compliance measures such as wearing of masks, hand hygiene, social distancing measures, cleaning and disinfection plans.

Chasmay Road Campus has changed over the last few months. It used to be bustling hub of activity welcoming nearly 300 visitors daily. The campus is quieter than normal, but we are happy to have the organisations operating again because each one of them contributes towards the good of the community of Masiphumelele.
