Stationery that helps our ECD learners celebrate diversity

When it comes to creatively expressing themselves, there are many South African children who are unable to draw themselves in colours that positively represent who they are.

Last week we added 300 packs of Colour Me crayons to the ECD care and food packs that we have been distributing to our ECD families during the COVID-10 lockdown. The crayons have 12 shades of colours that represent and celebrate the diverse skin tones in our country.

We are so happy that finally children can see representations of themselves and others in the stationery they use for artistic expression, allowing them to celebrate the skin they are in and understand how beautiful diversity is.

The unique shape and size also helps children to develop an efficient and correct grip when using pencils and crayons – an important skill needed for preparing for Grade 1! The crayons are such fun to use, with every colour named after a yummy treat that the kids can lovingly associate and identify their skin tone with.

The Colour Me crayons are so special to us and will surely contribute to the positive way in which our learners view themselves and others. On receiving their crayons, the children were so excited – we hope it will make learning at home more fun for them, especially in these difficult days of lockdown.
